O and I still also want to know where you get your textures :)!

after you make the ellipse use the direct selection tool (shortcut A) to drag around the waypoints of the ellipse into the shape you want.
as for how i learned it, its purely experimenting from what i read from tutorials. mainly from vectuts and vectips.

So im using illustrator and im pretty frustrated. I was watching that video you made of you using it and I couldnt even figure out how to move around an ellips to make it the shape of a head. I have never used illustrator before. Where do you originally learn? What tutorials did you use?

I guess I'll do a poll up on the boards to see if there's more interest.

haha, well you seem really good to me! im only, 13, and im just kinda getting into the groove of things and learning to make vectors and stuff. I think you should make a tutorial just showing the process you use when you make stuff like that.

patience? haha i have everything BUT patience. i can't wait to get better. but there's a lot of hard work in between which im kinda excited for since none of this feels like 'work' to me.
started seriously designing about a year ago. everything before that was just random filters on photoshop and craptastic anime drawings.

yeah illustrators my main tool. im quite useless with photoshop. haha i add some minimal texture effects and adjust the colors with it but thats about it.
